University of Miami professors Carie Penabad and Adib Cure, in the School of Architecture, and Christopher Mader and Tim Norris, in the Center for Computational Science, and their student researchers are taking a new approach to mapping informal cities.
By using a combination of drawing and hi-tech drone mapping, this interdisciplinary team is documenting neighborhoods throughout Latin America.
By working with the local communities and making the data available to them, these maps help legitimize the areas and capture important resources that fill crucial gaps in often-marginalized parts of society.
