Enabling Educational Excellence (3E)

Great universities expand opportunities for great students, and in that spirit, we must continue to build the kinds of bridges that allow deserving students from all backgrounds to join this academic community. The University is committed to expanding funded undergraduate scholarships and enhancing academic experiences to help our talented and deserving students succeed. In keeping with the University’s vision to become an exemplary and excellent institution, it is embarking on a multi-phase housing plan to improve its current housing offerings for students. In doing so, the University will meet student – and parent – needs and expectations as the institution continues to attract brighter and more talented students.

Our retention strategy is built on a partnership between Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management and is managed by the 'Canes Success Center.

Initiatives include:

  • First-Year Directions, a course that presents students in their first semester with both campus opportunities and curricular and co-curricular options
  • Early engagement with students during the summer via an earlier start to UMX, our virtual introductory course to UM
  • Connecting writing and math courses and ’Cane Success to proactively identify students who might need support in the classroom
  • Activities for transfer students, who make up approximately 20 percent of the undergraduates.
