Access to Excellence

Sobering national statistics highlight the challenges students with financial need face in gaining access to higher education and finishing a degree. To continue to attract the most gifted students, the University will expand endowed scholarships and strive to meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need for undergraduate students admitted through merit-based admission.

Actions

  • Pursue strategies to meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need for undergraduate students
  • Expand access to significant learning opportunities for undergraduates through increased outreach and improved financial support for participation in research, community service, internships, and study abroad
  • Enhance financial support for doctoral students to continue to attract the highest quality students

The accountable lead for the Access to Excellence initiative is John Haller, vice president for enrollment management.

“When students get access to all UM has to offer, they can develop far beyond academic and career pursuits. UM’s support for undergraduate research and my study abroad experience in the Galapagos has made an incredible impact on my life.”
